Today at Parliament, Treaty Negotiations Minister Chris Finlayson signed agreements in principle with representatives from Ngāti Rangiwewehi and Tapuika. Third-sector Social Housing Unit to be established

This week the Minister of Housing Phil Heatley announced that an appropriation of $40 million for 2011/12 will be used to establish a Social Housing Unit (SHU) within the  Department of Building and Housing.  The unit will be semi-autonomous, and its Executive will have direct reporting responsibilities to Ministers.

Alcohol reform bill

This week Prime Minister John Key announced that the Justice and Electoral select committee report to Parliament on the Alcohol law reform bill will be delayed.  The report which was due to be tabled in Parliament on June 23  has been changed to August 30.
